About the Film
Sounds of Valor is a powerful documentary about healing, resilience, and the unbreakable bond shared by those who have served.
At the heart of the film is Vietnam veteran and musician Tom Mooney, who sets out on a deeply personal mission: to bring together veterans from different generations—Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond—to form an all-veteran band. What begins as a musical collaboration becomes something far more profound: a journey of connection, understanding, and emotional recovery.
Through original songs, rehearsals, candid conversations, and a culminating live performance at the historic Irvington Theater, Sounds of Valor reveals how music can become a lifeline—helping veterans process trauma, rebuild identity, and rediscover purpose after service.
This is not a story about war. It is a story about what comes after.
As these musicians share their experiences, they uncover a truth that transcends generations: while their wars were different, their healing is the same.
Filmed in the Hudson River towns of New York and produced by DocuFilms, Sounds of Valor is both an intimate portrait of friendship and a larger reflection on service, sacrifice, and the redemptive power of art.
More than a concert film, Sounds of Valor is a reminder that sometimes the way home begins with being heard.
